This document walks through the process of copying your Canvas course from one term to the next. This is a simple process that requires only a few steps. To get started, you should have your Canvas course for the new semester as well as the name of the course you want to copy from the previous term.
Step 1.
Go to your new Canvas course for the new semester/term and click Settings in the navigation bar on the left.
Step 2.
Click Import Course Content located on the right-hand side of the screen.
Step 3.
In the Import Content page, select the Copy a Canvas Course option from the drop-down menu.
Step 4.
Locate the course you wish to copy content from by selecting a course from the drop-down menu or use the search for a course box to search by course name
For the Content box either select All Content or choose Select Specific Content if you would like to only copy over specific modules from your previous term.
Click Import.
Step 5.
Your file(s) import will be displayed in the Current Jobs section with a menu bar showing the remaining time to generate the report.
You will receive an email notification when your import is complete.
Import statuses include: pre-processing, queued, running, completed, and failed.
Click Select Content.
Step 6.
Once your course content has been successfully copied, you will need to establish your new Follett LTI course link with the students in your new term.
Navigate back to Modules and click on the Publisher Course link or eBook link that was copied over.
Step 7.
You will be directed to Initialize the Course. Select the Academic Term from the drop-down menu and click Submit.
If you are using Publisher Courseware - be sure to finish activating your publisher content by signing in to their portal and completing the pairing process.
