Accessing Your Ebook and Digital Materials Through Redshelf Brytewave and Brightspace
Brytewave by Redshelf is a tool that allows you to access your ebooks and codes that can be used to unlock access to certain third party tools. These can also be accessed directly in Brightspace, via email, or directly on the Brytewave website. Review the instructions below to learn how to access your materials and which third party tools require codes to unlock and which have codeless access.

Instructions for students to access their digital materials:
- Is the book a physical copy?
- If so, students will receive an email confirmation and request to pick up at the bookstore.
- Is the book an ebook?
- If so, it’s in BryteWave/Redshelf and can be accessed by clicking the “Instructional Materials Access” link in Brightspace on the Course Homepage. This will take you to your own BryteWave/Redshelf bookshelf account where your book will be available. You will also receive an email from Redshelf confirming when the book has been placed on your account.
- Is the instructor using courseware?
- Is it codeless?
- Instructors will deploy their learning tools as they have always done within the course modules of Brightspace courses. Students will see the external learning tool links to these materials within their course modules in Brightspace. Students will not receive any emails from Follett with these products as they are set up as open access with links to the courseware like they have always been minus a paywall. No code needed because there should not be a paywall.
- Is it coded? (Online Homework courseware from Pearson, and other smaller vendors will require a code to be used.
- Is it a digital code?
- Is it codeless?
Students will need to grab the digital code from Redshelf by clicking the “Instructional Materials Access” link in
- Brightspace on the Course Homepage. Then, they will need to enter that code into the external learning tool links within their course modules in Brightspace. Students will receive the BryteWave email confirming that the code is on their BryteWave bookshelf.
- Is it a paper code? (These types of codes and products are going to be from smaller specialized vendors)
- Go to bookstore and pick up the paper code. An email confirmation will be sent from Follett when these codes are available for pick up in the store or it will have the code in that confirmation email for the student. Then, they will need to enter that code into the external learning tool links within their course modules in Brightspace.
Your ebooks are available in three ways:

Third Party Tools in Brightspace (Courseware)
The table below lists the third party tools (courseware) in Brightspace and whether they require a code, which would be available in Redshelf Brytewave or access is automatically granted and does not require a code (codeless). You will not see any of these third party tools on your Redshelf Brytewave shelf except those that are codeless such as Pearson and GoReact.
Tool Name | Does it need a Code? |
Pearson | Paywall Code - in Brytewave Instructional Materials Access widget. |
Cengage | Codeless |
Elsevier Evolve | Codeless |
GoReact | Paywall Code - Paper code or via email |
Macmillan Sapling/Achieve | Codeless |
McGraw Hill Connect | Codeless |
McGraw Hill Simnet | Codeless |
Vista Higher Learning (VHL) | Paywall Code - Paper code or via email |
Zybooks/Zylabs | Paywall Code - Paper code or via email |
Flatworld | Paywall Code - Paper code or via email |
WileyPlus | Codeless |
Only ebooks that are listed as required materials are part of the inclusive access program and will appear on your Brytewave shelf. Physical books or recommended ebooks will not appear. Only tools which have Paywall code will appear on your Brytewave shelf as well. So, if you have one course that uses McGraw Hill Simnet and another that uses Pearson, you will only see a card for Pearson on your shelf because Simnet has codeless access.
These codes can be copied from the cards and pasted into the third party tool in Brightspace to unlock them.
